WHAT CAUSES POTHOLES AND HOW ARE THEY REPAIRED?

Potholes occur when water seeps into unsealed cracks in your pavement. This water expands when the weather gets cold, enlarging the cracks and holes naturally found in the pavement.  Once the snow and ice melt after a long Northern winter, you may find large potholes in your parking lot or driveway as a result.

Before these holes start causing a serious problem for drivers or get even larger next winter, you should have them repaired with new asphalt to avoid any liability issues that might arise.

 CUT & REPLACE POTHOLE REPAIR

The traditional way to fix a pothole or failed area of asphalt is to cut or mill it out.  We remove the old asphalt and then inspect the base. Depending on the base, it will either need to be compacted or completely removed and replaced. After that step, the perimeter walls need to be tacked, and new asphalt needs to be installed. The new asphalt is installed in two lifts while compacting after both lifts.
